2 charged over INEC, NIMC, FIRS, NNPC job ‘scam’ in Kwara

Two persons, Ibrahim Naimat Biola of Nda Compound, Ojo-Oba and Sulaiman Olarewaju Danjuma, of Olunlade area, have been arraigned at a Kwara State magistrate court over alleged job scam and fraudulent practices.

The suspects were dragged to court on a five-count charge of criminal conspiracy, criminal breach of trust, cheating and advanced fee fraud.

The offences contravened sections 97, 312, 322 of the penal code 3(1) of the advanced fee fraud Act 2006.

According to the Police First Information Report (FIR), the case was reported by five of the suspected victims namely, Ibrahim Abdullahi Alaya, Alabi Bukola, Gazali Abdullahi, Musa Tajudeen Aremu, Habibat Lawal Usman Dembo, Babatunde Nurudeen Adebayo, Abdulqadri Abdullahi and Kolo Daniel.

The suspects “Under false pretence, promised to secure a job for them at National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Nigeria National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited and Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) respectively.

“And based on trust, the complainants paid various sums of money to the suspects First and Access banks account amounting to N14m, which they failed to give proper account of during investigation”, the charge sheet further added.

Counsel to the defendants, Toyin Onaolapo argued for their bails while prosecutor, Zaccheus Folorunsho disagreed.

In her ruling, Magistrate Rashidat Yahaya granted the suspects bail with two sureties and adjourned to March 13, 2024.
