Police arrest ‘killers’ of female corps member in Benue

The Police in Benue State have paraded the suspected killers of a female National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member shot dead on Naka-Makurdi road of the state.

Irene Chioma Emmanuel, the deceased corps member, was killed during a robbery on the dilapidated road earlier this year.

The state Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Adesina, while parading the suspects at the Command’s headquarters in Makurdi, said following reports of robberies on Makurdi-Naka road, police teams were deployed to investigate and arrest the suspects.

He said, “On 6/2/2024 at about 1915hrs, the police trailed and arrested the following gang members: Oryina Kumshi Terzungwe and Philip Tyohie in a hideout at Adeke.

“Suspects confessed to have been involved in four robbery operations on Naka road and neighboring communities that led to loss of lives and property

“Particularly, they confessed to have been part of the robbery and killing of a female youth corps member, one Irene Chioma Emmanuel, whom they killed while she was trying to protect her laptop from them. A knife and three live ammunition were recovered from them. Investigation is ongoing.”

In a similar development, the CP disclosed that on February 24, 2024, at about 11:30pm while police officers in collaboration with Community Volunteer Guards were on patrol at Adoka, they intercepted one Echoche and Inalegwu Anebi in a dark corner where they were suspected to have laid in ambush for commuters.

Adesina further disclosed that one single-barrelled gun, ATM cards and one locally-made revolver shortgun loaded with five rounds of ammunition were recovered from the suspects, adding that investigation into the matter was ongoing.
