Kebbi partners commission to tackle challenges in riverine communities

The Kebbi State Government, in collaboration with the National Hydro Electric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC), has resolved to tackle the challenges bedeviling riverine communities in 14 local government areas in the state.

The government also announced plans to establish skills acquisition centres in each of the four emirate councils in the state to enable the youths to acquire skills and stand independently.

Governor Mohammed Nasir Idris, who received the Managing Director of N-HYPPADEC and other top officials at the Kebbi Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, said he would fulfil his campaign promises to the people in collaboration with the commission.

He said, “Our people that are living in the riverine areas, about 14 LGs, under this N-HYPPADEC, have benefitted immensely. I know what you have been doing in Kebbi, you will also do it in other states. Kebbi State is ever ready. We have already started training our youths so that at the end of the day we will be able to reduce the unemployment rate that we have.

Earlier, the Managing Director of N-HYPPADEC, Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa, said the essence of the visit was to share the mandate, mission and vision of N-HYPPADEC, as well as the modest contributions of the commission towards reducing ecological problems and promoting socio-economic development in Kebbi State.
