Lecturers at Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, have called off a strike they started to demand unpaid salaries.

The strike was to start Monday but got called off after executives of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics at the school met with Kogi state accountant-general, finance and education commissioners.

ASUP’s chairman, Boluromi Sunday  confirmed to Daily Trust that some lecturers have started getting alerts of their July salary payment, hence the decision to suspend the industrial action.

He said the salary payment was indication of government’s commitment in meeting the demands of the lecturers.

The chairman stated that other agitations were presented to the government and the Commissioner for Finance, Idris Asiru requested that the cost implications for all the issues be computed and submitted to enable the governor choose the ones he can immediately execute.

Following the outcome of the meeting, the chairman has directed members to resume work and continue with the conduct of semester’s examinations as scheduled.
