Media Group tasks INEC on credible Elections, safety of journalists

In a significant development leading up to the upcoming 2023 general elections, a media group Volunteer Media Advocacy For Accountable Leadership has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to guarantee a free and fair electoral process.

The media group, known for its commitment to unbiased reporting and democratic principles, in the statement issued by its national coordinator, Ojochide Augustine urged INEC to take proactive measures to ensure the integrity of the electoral system.

Ojochide also called for the safety of journalists who will be monitoring the elections and reporting from the field, expressing concern over past incidents where journalists have been harassed by politicians and their supporters.

He emphasized the critical role that free and fair elections play in sustaining democracy and fostering public trust. Their statement highlighted the importance of conducting elections that are transparent, inclusive, and devoid of any form of manipulation or interference.
