Fire razes 50 shops in Kano market

Over 50 shops were burnt while property worth millions of naira got destroyed in a fire outbreak at Yan Katako Market, Rijiyar Lemu area of Fagge Local Government, Kano State.

Chairman of the market, Mamuda Abdullahi, who confirmed the incident, explained that the fire started at about 1am on Monday.

He said shops affected by the inferno  had plywood, foam, spray machine, chairs, and other carpentry tools in them.

He, however, commended the Kano State Fire Service personnel for their prompt response while calling on the state government and philanthropists to support traders who have lost their means of livelihood.

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi, confirmed the incident adding that about 25 shops were completely razed down by the inferno, while several other shops were also torched or partially affected by the fire.

“We received distress calls around 1am and our men were able to put out the fire around 2am,” Abdullahi said.
