The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike; Chairman, Police Service Commission (PSC), Solomon Arase, and a former Adviser to late President Umar Musa Yar’Adua on Niger Delta Affairs, Godknows Igali, have proffered solutions to banditry and other forms of insecurity plaguing the country.
They spoke in Abuja at a national security conference organised by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and The New National State Newspaper, with the theme: ‘National Security and Development.’
Wike said the media should deepen its reportage and hold those in charge responsible to discharge their responsibilities.
He said without security, there would be no meaningful economic growth, social harmony, and individual well-being of the nation and citizens.

On his part, the PSC boss, Arase, while speaking on ‘Citizen Engagement in the Fight against Crime and Criminality in Nigeria’, said there must be coordination and communication among security agencies that are devoid of politicisation of the issues.
Arase, who is also a former Inspector General of Police (IGP), called for community policing already adopted in Japan and Germany which he said has built trust between law enforcement agencies and local communities.
The NUJ national president, Chief Chris Iziguzo, said the summit was organised for experts to brainstorm on the raging crimes commitment by unscrupulous elements, which has left trails of emotional and psychological torture on citizens.
Igali on his part said finding lasting solutions to insecurity is a collective effort and not that of security of government officials alone.
