The current economic situation has had a lot of negative effects on many undergraduates in various universities in Nigeria, including those in private institutions. Definitely, the act of waking up to the exorbitant and nefarious prices and costs of goods and transportation has grossly taken a toll on many students nationwide.
The cost of foodstuffs has been of great concern for many students as the prices of many items have increased tremendously making it difficult to feed three times in a day.
In addition, they also face a hike in the cost of accommodation as landlords continue to increase their rent. Many of the off-campus houses are being let out at exorbitant prices due to the nation’s worsening economy.
Similarly, the cost of transportation has gone through the roof with many students, especially those staying off campus, finding it difficult to cope.

- Nigeria’s hardship: One GCFR, many presidents
It is, therefore, time for all governments to take a critical look at the difficulties being faced by our students. Many of them come from poor backgrounds and need all the assistance they can get.
