The Nigeria Army Military Hospital in Benin, Edo State, has rewarded five staff of the hospital, including a civilian for outstanding performance and dedication to duty.
Daily Trust reports that Corporal Lucy Onye emerged overall best female soldier, while Lance Corporal Amadu Mohammed emerged overall best male soldier,
Dr Osabueki Iguodala won overall best civilian doctor, Nurse Yetunde Adepoju emerged overall best civilian nurse while Mr. Peter Odono emerged overall best unit gardeners for 2023
Presenting the award to the beneficiaries during the annual West African Social Event (WASA) at the hospital, Director, Military hospital, Brig. Gen. Paulina Aburime, said the awardees distinguished themselves in the discharge of their duties.

She said, “WASA is avenue for the military to showcase the cultural heritage of our nation and the commandeering that exist among military units”.
“It afford us an opportunity to come together to relax, have fun and forge stronger bond with one another. It is also a time to reflect on our accomplishment, celebrate our success and look forward to the year ahead with renewed enthusiasm and determination.”
She charged soldiers, officers and civilians to fully participate in the activities planned for the celebration and make the most of the special event.
On his part, the Commander, 4 Brigade, Nigeria Army, Benin, Brigadier General, Ebenizer Uduyebo, charged the awardees to continue with the good work as who much is given, much is expected.
“WASA is an annual event for soldiers, officers and members of the military to interact with civilians and unwind in a relax environment to mark the end of the year 2023 land signal the commencement of 2024 haven marked thr end of last year.”
He commended the director of military hospital for organizing a very colorful WASA for the benefit of soldiers and officers of the military as well as civilians.
The highlights of the event were cultural dance, tug of war between soldiers’ wives and female officers.
