Two ‘killed’ as van rams into landmine in Borno

At least two civilians were killed and several traders sustained varying degrees of injury when a pick-up van rammed into a landmine on Damboa/Maiduguri higway in the southern part of Borno State on Friday.

It was learnt that the incident occurred near Bullaburin village in Damboa Local Government Area of the state.

According to a security source, the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was buried on the side of the highway and exploded when a van coming from Maiduguri stepped on it, killing two people and leaving several traders severely wounded.

“Two people lost their lives and other traders were wounded after the pick-up van coming from Maiduguri to Damboa town stepped on the landmine buried by insurgents near Bullaburin village along Maiduguri/Damboa higway,” the source said.

Recall that a week ago, when troops were conducting clearance on the highway in a bid to reopen Damboa/Biu higway for motorists, IEDs claimed the lives of some volunteers while others were injured.
