Wike threatens to blacklist contractor over contract variation requests

The FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has threatened to blacklist Setraco Nigeria Ltd for allegedly asking for contract variation on the ongoing construction of Ring Road 1 segment of the Southern Parkway connecting Area 11, Central Area, Area 3 and Durumi, as well as Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway, in Abuja.

Wike, who issued the threat on Wednesday during the inspection of some heavily funded road projects, reiterated that the issue of variation was not on the table and that it would not be accepted by the FCT Administration under his watch.

He said that from the records, the FCTA had paid 97 per cent for the project, but that the company had failed to provide street lights, and that upon inquiry, the company’s managing director talked about variation.

He threatened that, “If they don’t complete on time, I’m going to blacklist the company; that’s the truth of the matter. Nobody will toy with us; nobody will try to outsmart us. So, the issue of variation is not on our table, as it would not be accepted.”

The Managing Director, Setraco Nigeria Ltd, Ziad Mouannes, who received the minister, insisted that the company be allowed to have a meeting with the officials of the FCTA to discuss and settle the matter.

He said the company remained committed to the project, hence that it was open for further engagements with the FCTA to reconcile and rectify the street light issue.
