The Nigeria Olympic Committee, (NOC) has inaugurated a six-man Constitution Review Committee with a mandate to midwife the review and amendment of NOC constitution.
Inaugurating the committee at the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) office in Jahi, Abuja, NOC President Habu Gumel said the review was a fundamental requirement for good governance and best practices globally within Olympic movement circle.
“It is in consonance with the principles of international Olympic Committee Charter, which is constantly reviewed from time to time to keep it updated.
“I therefore urge these Honourable constitutional review committee members to do justice in the task ahead of them. As per guidelines, the Olympic Charter is there available to you for referencing by, and other renowned Olympic Committee constitutions can also be made available to you for benchmarking,” he said.

Gumel read out the terms of Reference for the committee to produce and submit a draft copy of the constitution in review to the president of Nigeria Olympic Committee, for onward due process transmission to the Executive Committee, Executive Board, the General Assembly and International Olympic Committee accordingly.
The six-member review committee is headed by Mr. Hussaini Garun-Gabbas while Mr. Emmanuel Nweri will serve as the secretary.
Responding after the inauguration, the Chairman of the committee, a senior Advocate of Nigeria, Garun-Gabbas gave assurances that the committee would deliver on its mandate by engaging necessary stakeholders.
