The Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has decried lack of accurate climatic data to guide builders and developers in flood prone areas at the local government level.
Obaseki, who said this as part of effort marking the International Day of Charity, noted that much of the uncontrolled development takes place at the local government level, which he said mostly resulted in flooding.
He noted that the magnitude of the crisis resulting from the flooding in parts of Benue State was beyond the power of the state government.
He therefore called on governments, religious groups, global leaders and captains of industry to remember the people of Benue State and others in distress by mobilising resources for them as the world celebrates the International Day of Charity.
The governor also commended President Muhammadu Buhari for the Federal Government’s efforts to assist victims of the floods in Benue State as he earlier did for Edo State and others that were affected by floods some months ago.
