Banquet hall project a waste, residents tell Kaduna Gov

Some residents of Kaduna State have kicked against Governor Uba Sani’s planned construction of a banquet hall at the state government house (Sir Kashim Ibrahim House) in the state.

According to them, the building of such a hall was a waste of resources as there are other halls in the state that could still be used for the purpose.

Daily Trust gathered that Governor Uba Sani, on 29 January 2024, unveiled his administration’s plan to construct the banquet hall at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House.

He said the banquet hall will serve as a prestigious venue for hosting official functions, conferences, and other important events which will contribute to the state’s infrastructure development.

But some residents interviewed by Daily Trust described the governor’s plan as unnecessary.

A resident from Tudun Wada, Muhammad Bello, said this shouldn’t be the priority of the state government considering the economic hardship the citizens are going through.

“Building a banquet hall shouldn’t be his priority because there are halls like Yar’Adua hall at Murtala Square and that of Hassan Usman Katsina House Kawo that are being used to host such official and important events in the state even before he (Uba Sani) came to power,” he said.

Another resident, Ustaz Aliyu Zaria, said the governor should channel the funds earmarked for the project to pay his workers their salaries regularly, particularly state civil servants.

Zaria said, “Let him use the money for the construction of the banquet hall to pay the state civil servants their salaries as and when due. It will be better than constructing a hall,” he said.

Umar Abdullahi Ramalan, a resident of Malali, urged the governor to focus on cushioning the hardship of the people rather than infrastructural development.
