Kano LG chair resigns, another quits APC for NNPP

The Chairman of Ungogo Local Government Area, Abdullahi Garba Ramat, has resigned from his position.

Ramat, who was among the council chairmen elected in March 2021, tendered his resignation on Monday and has since handed over to his deputy, according to a post he made on his Facebook page.

He said, “Alhamdullah, today I have handed over the affairs of Ungogo Local Government Area to my deputy. I have done my best in the areas of improving hundreds of infrastructural development projects and have received many accolades and awards, including the best local government chairman awarded to me by the state assembly.”

Ramat handed over during a brief ceremony where he flagged off empowerment for 500 women and also unveiled the council’s official logo to be used in official matters.

In a similar development, the Chairman of Nassarawa Local Government Area in Kano State, Auwalu Lawan Shaaibu, popularly known as Aranposu, has defected to the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

Aranposu, an associate of Nasir Yusuf Gawuna, the APC governorship candidate in the 2023 general elections, also announced his defection to the ruling New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) on his Facebook page on Tuesday.

He said, “I have returned to my home. And His Excellency, Abba Kabir Yusuf is the man of the people (the less privileged) and loves Kano. We should pray for him.”

A picture of Aranposu with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf was first shared on social media by the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on social media, Salisu Yahaya Hotoro, wearing a red cap, an insignia of the Kwankwasiyya Movement.

Efforts to reach him by our reporter to get more details about his defection were not successful as his mobile phone was unreachable, and the message sent to him was not replied to at the time of filing this report.
