The immediate past President of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), Bar. Olumide Akpata, has said he joined the Edo state governorship race as a result of the “failure” of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) government led by Governor Godwin Obaseki.

Akpata who is an aspirant of the Labour Party, stated this while answering questions from journalists shortly after dissociating himself from the protest against Julius Abure, National Chairman of the party.

“I am not Governor Obaseki’s mole, surrogate or whatever name. I have asked this question before, which message will Governor Obaseki wants to send me as an agent?

SPONSOR AD

“Is it the school that PDP didn’t do or the road they didn’t tar or the Primary Healthcare Center they did do for our people? Is that the message he would send me as agent? You don’t give what you don’t have.”

He said being Obaseki’s agent exist in the minds of some individuals who believe that his aspiration was dead on arrival.

On the allegation of sponsoring anti-Abure, Akpata said he was in the party to join hands with others to ensure that it is well resourced to provide good leadership.

“I have come to the Labour Party to help build it and join hands with well-meaning party leaders in ensuring its well resource in all that it needs to provide robust opposition. I am not in the LP on National Youth Service but, on permanent posting and no individual can get me out of the party. Political harlotry is not one of my strong points.I have chosen to be in LP and that is where I remain.”
