Ali Nuhu’s appointment: Kannywood bares expectations

After the announcement of the appointment of famous Kannywood actor Ali Nuhu as the Managing Director of Nigerian Film Corporation, the Hausa filmmaking industry erupted in jubilation.

A lot of practitioners have sent in their congratulatory messages expressing their expectations on the elevation of one of them to the helm of filmmaking affairs.

Among those that have sent their congratulatory message is the Executive Secretary, Kano State Censorship Board Alhaji Abba El-mustapha as he joined thousands of friends and well-wishers of Ali Nuhu to felicitate with him on his new appointment as Managing Director, Nigerian Film Corporation by President Bola Ahmad Tunibu.

The MD in a statement issued to newsmen and signed by the board’s information officer Abdullahi Sani Sulaiman described the appointment of Ali Nuhu as something that didn’t come to him by surprise, considering Ali Nuhu’s wealth of knowledge and vast experience in the filmmaking industry.

He further explained that the appointment is an acknowledgement to his unwavering contribution to the development of Kannywood and Nollywood, adding that Ali Nuhu is worthy to hold any position in the country not only in Arts, Culture and Creative Economy sector, but also anywhere.

He prayed Almighty Allah to give the new MD zeal, wisdom and courage to discharge his duties diligently and successfully while wishing him a fruitful tenure ahead.

Similarly, famous actor, producer and director in the Hausa filmmaking industry, Falalu A. Dorayi, described the appointment of Ali Nuhu as a recognition of the long time contribution given by the Hausa filmmaking industry in the sustainability of democracy since 2003. He explained that the appointment is viewed as a step towards the fulfilment of Mr President’s promise to the industry, adding that Mr President had promised to incorporate the industry into his administration. He said the appointment of Ali Nuhu is regarded as part of the fulfilment of the promises made to the industry.

“Ali has been in the industry from inception and I believe he is in a better position to address all issues of the industry because he knows better. We expect a tremendous positive shift as well as moving the art of filmmaking business to the desired height. We will work with him, give him all the necessary cooperation he may need to succeed,” said Dorayi.

Another key player in the industry Rabi’u Rikadawa stated that the appointment of Ali Nuhu is not only a plus to Kannywood but to the entire north, adding that Kannywood should learn to understand that the success attained by Ali Nuhu wasn’t a coincident but something he had worked for.

“This appointment is a wakeup call for every practitioner to understand that being educated is an integral part of being a good actor and a successful leader.  The industry has to rejoice on this development and I am optimistic that with his wealth of experience, the industry will surely be transformed to a greater height,” said Rikadawa.

For Kannywood producer, actor and director Nasiru Bello Sani, known in the industry as Nasiru Naba, the appointment is an indication that the present nation’s administration has recognised Kannywood as a very vital entity that has been contributing to national development.

He revealed that Ali Nuhu has been so instrumental in the industry’s development and his current position will no doubt take the industry to the highest level of development, stressing that the appointment is a good omen for the industry.
