Surulere by-election: Gbajabiamila rallies support for APC candidate

The Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, on Thursday joined other All Progressives Congress (APC) faithful in canvassing votes for House of Representative candidate, Fuad Laguda ahead of the Bye-Election billed to hold on Saturday, February 3, 2024.

The COS occupied the office as a representative of the Surulere 1 constituency for five terms and won re-election for the sixth time before he vacated the seat to occupy the Office of Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu.

At the last day of the campaign held for the Saturday’s bye-election, the COS joined other APC stalwarts on a roadshow which started from Teslim Balogun Stadium through Funsho Williams Avenue.

The massive rally impeded flow of both vehicular and human traffic in Surulere and environs.

In an interview with newsmen, the APC candidate expressed optimism that he would emerge victorious in the Saturday’s election to take over from Gbajabiamila.

He said, “I appreciate everybody being out today for us. This is large for the party and for us. You can see the amount of support as a party, and we pray for the same energy as we are going to take to the polls when the party will claim the mandate again,” he said.

Also, a member, Lagos State House of Assembly, Surulere Constituency 1, Mr. Desmond Elliott, urged residents to vote for Laguda.

“I want to urge every resident of Surulere to cast their vote for Fuad Laguda on Saturday. If voted, he will represent us well at the Federal House of Representatives. Please come out early enough and vote. By the grace of God, we will get the victory,” he said.

Lending his voice, the party’s chairman in Surulere, Sheriff Balogun, expressed confidence that the party would retain the position, urging residents to exercise their franchise without fear or intimidation.

“Today is the last day of campaigning for our candidate, Laguda, who we would like to represent us in the Green Chamber. I urge everyone in Surulere to come out enmasse and vote for him because if he is voted for, he will replace the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila,” he said.
