The Federal Government has inaugurated the Steering Committee for the implementation of the €54.5 million support project for the North East. The project which is jointly funded by the European Union (EU) and the German government through its Ministry of Cooperation and Development (GIZ), will have a 48-month duration.
The EU and GIZ contributed €37 million and €17.5 million respectively. According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Budget and National Planning, the project is aimed at strengthening the resilience of Internally Displaced Persons, enhancing the capacity of host communities to continue to absorb IDPs, catering for returning refugees and the local population affected by insurgency in Borno and Adamawa. The Steering Committee consists of the Federal Ministryrno of Budget and National Planning, which is the national authorizing office as Chair, the Government of Borno and Adamawa States, the federal ministries in charge of Health, Women Affairs and Social Development, and Youth Development; the Presidential Committee on the North East Initiative (PCNI), operation Lafiya Dole, and the project team comprising GIZ, EU and the Federal Ministry of Budget and National Planning.
