On August 18, the Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima paid a visit to the headquarters of the Presidential Committee on the North-East Initiative (PCNI). He was accompanied by the Senator representing Borno South and member of PCNI, Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, the Borno State Commissioner for Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement, Prof Babagana Umara Zulum, and several other aides. The delegation was received by the Vice Chairman of the PCNI, Tijjani Tumsah.
The Governor said his visit was hinged on the need to strengthen the collaboration between Borno State and PCNI in delivering humanitarian and developmental aid to the State.
He commended the PCNI for its coordination role especially in mobilizing stakeholders to deliver multi-sectoral solutions to the problems occasioned by the insurgency. Responding, Mr. Tumsah said that the visit was timely as it coincided with the activities of humanitarian actors to mark the World Humanitarian Day. He restated the PCNI’s commitment to the rebuilding and resettlement efforts of not only Borno State but the entire North East. He also used the occasion to praise communities in Borno State for their resilience in the face of asymmetric security challenges and commended Governor Shettima for the state government’s efforts in rebuilding the state despite several challenges
