The Kano State Commissioner, Ministry of Planning and Budget, Musa Suleiman Shanono has revealed that Governor Abba Yusuf’s administration has resolved to improve the standard of education and revive the sector in the state.
The commissioner said it was because of the resolution that the education sector gets the largest share of allocation in the 2024 budget.
Shanono made this known at a press briefing and breakdown of the 2024 budget with journalists and civil society organisations Tuesday.
He said, “The administration’s promise to raise the state’s yearly spending on education is in line with our coordinated efforts to revive the education sector. Since we assumed office, our administration has significantly improved education at primary, secondary and tertiary levels, living up to a pledge we made during the campaign. This is intended to give the state’s future leaders access to high-quality education.

“In order to make this a reality, N125.88 billion, representing 28.78 per cent of the 2024 total budget size, is allocated to this critical sector. This amount exceeds the 26.0% of the UNESCO declaration.”
In the 2024 budget, 42 projects will be shared across the Ministry for Higher Education, Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil, Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education, Aminu Kano College of Islamic and Legal Studies and Yusuf Maitama Sule University among other interventions.
Others are Kano State College of Education and Preliminary Studies, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso College of Basic and Remedial Studies, T/Wada, Kano State Polytechnic and Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Danbatta.
Daily Trust gathered that the second ministry with the largest allocation is that of health with N73 billion, which represents 16.46 per cent with 38 projects.
