The filmmaker called the movie “a step backwards.”
James Cameron really, really, really made ‘Wonder Woman’ fans irate on Thursday with his comments about the blockbuster DC superhero film directed by Patty Jenkins.
In a recent interview with The Guardian, the ‘Terminator’ and ‘Avatar’ filmmaker talked about the Gal Gadot starrer – and he was rough on it.
“All of the self-congratulatory back-patting Hollywood’s been doing over ‘Wonder Woman’ has been so misguided,” Cameron said. “She’s an objectified icon, and it’s just male Hollywood doing the same old thing! I’m not saying I didn’t like the movie but, to me, it’s a step backwards.”
Cameron pointed to his female protagonist, Sarah Connor, in the Terminator films as a strong woman, saying her imperfections made her intriguing to the audience.
Needless to say, his remarks got under Wonder Woman’ fans’ skin, big time. And they made their thoughts known by criticizing some Cameron’s female characters’ exploitation.
