Encomiums for APC founding chairman, Akande, at 85

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has described a former interim national chairman of the party, Chief Bisi Akande, as a veteran grassroots politician and icon of political progressivism who laid the foundation for the party’s victory in the 2015 general elections.

The APC, in a statement on Monday by its national publicity secretary, Barrister Felix Morka, on the occasion of Akande’s 85th birthday anniversary today, said the former governor of Osun State is a unifier within the party.

Recall that the APC was formed in 2013, and to fulfil the party’s registration requirements, stakeholders across the merging parties met in Abuja, where they appointed Akande as the interim national chairman.

Similarly, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajuddeen, said the solid foundation laid by Akande and others sustained the party’s stay in power since 2015.

He made the remark in a statement on Monday signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, to felicitate Akande on his 85th birthday.

He commended Akande for his role as one of the founding fathers of the ruling party, describing him as an elder statesman who is a political mentor to many and an inspiration to the ruling class.

On his part, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, described Akande as an advocate of good governance and an epitome of true federalism.

Governor Sanwo-Olu in a statement issued yesterday by his Chief Press Secretary, Gboyega Akosile, added that the APC chieftain is a courageous and honest leader, who has made a great impact on the lives of many Nigerians through politics and governance.
