Over 60 aspirants have obtained nomination and expression of interest forms to run for various party leadership positions ahead of the June 23, 2018 National Convention of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), a former secretary of the National Convention Committee (NCC), Sen. Benjamin Uwajumogu, has said.
Sen. Uwajumogu said this in Abuja on Tuesdaywhile formally handing over the position to the new NCC Secretary, Sen. Victor Ndoma-Egba, who was appointed by the party leadership to replace him, after his resignation last Friday.
"Let me assure you that the 2018 National Convention will be one of the best to be organized by the APC.
"As at today, more than 60 people have bought forms for the vacant positions. Yet, the sale of forms is still ongoing. However, we are keeping to the time-table released earlier.
"Everything is still in order and my leaving the position will not affect the process. I know very well that with experiences Senator Ndoma-Egba has, he will bring more vibes to this convention scheduled for June 23," he said.
Speaking during the brief ceremony, Ndoma-Egba thanked Sen. Uwajumogu for setting a strong framework and clear footpaths to a successful 2018 convention.
He said, "You (Sen. Uwajumogu) have done the bulk of the work, mine is just to continue and conclude the good work you have started. I share your feelings that the 2018 Convention will be a very successful one and this is in spite of your departure for personal reasons which we understand.
"And it will not impact negatively on the arrangements you have made because they are already on ground and they are entrenched, mine is to make sure that we move forward."
Uwajumogu had resigned last week, citing personal reasons.
