We’ll assess you based on KPIs, Keyamo tells aviation CEOs

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo has warned against non-performance by new heads of aviation agencies, saying they would be assessed based on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

Keyamo stated this yesterday at the induction and signing of performance bond by the recently appointed chief executive officers of aviation agencies.

The agencies include the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT).

Keyamo assures air passengers of safety, adherence to regulations

Keyamo said, “This is a call to service and not pecuniary gains.  In football, if a team is not doing well, it is the coach that gets fired because it is the responsibility of the coach to pick his team. The change made in the aviation sector is aimed at making sure the players play according to the vision of the coach.

“Most of the work of the aviation ministry is in the agencies in terms of regulation and revenue, so you must understand that most of the work is in your hands and it will require you to work assiduously to ensure that there is breath of new fresh air in the aviation ministry.

“Myself and the permanent secretary signed a performance bond with the president and today you’re signing with me so you either perform or get fired because we will surely assess you based on my five point agenda for the industry, which will form your Key Performance Indicators. Therefore as CEOs, you should also sign performance with your various directors and directors should sign with heads of units, by doing so there will be a basis for efficiency,” he said.

Keyamo further warned that his ministry will have zero tolerance for corruption and any CEO found wanting will be fired and prosecuted.

“For those of you who think this is a jamboree, those close to me, I won’t tolerate non-performance. If you think your aim is to make money, give me your resignation letter  today because there are thousands of Nigerians ready to serve and you should consider it a privilege to serve. Therefore, if you’re involved in corruption, I will be the first to hand you over to law enforcement agencies,” Keyamo added.

The Acting Director General, Civil Aviation, Capt. Chris Najumo assured the president and Nigerians of the commitment of the CEOs in transforming the aviation sector.
