Roadside trading: Bayelsa govt warns traders, reels out sanctions

In order to curtail incessant traffic blocks as well as clashes on the roads in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital, the state government has urged traders in different markets to stop displaying their goods on the road and make use of the space inside the markets.

Bayelsa State Volunteer Security Outfit and Vigilante Services, the state government security outfits that carried out sensitisation yesterday against roadside trading at Tombia, Swali and other markets in the state capital, warned traders that there will be stiff penalties for those who flout government directives.

Speaking during the sensitisation, the Coordinator of Bayelsa Volunteers, Chief Oyinkuro Lucky Asanakpo, urged market men and women to desist from displaying their goods on roadside to avert road obstruction and in order not to deface the city.
