The police in Kogi state have confirmed the arrest of six suspects in connection with the attack of senator representing Kogi East district at the national assembly, Jibrin Isah Echocho.
Echocho had narrated to Daily Trust on Tuesday how armed thugs assaulted him outside Kogi state governor’s office shortly after a meeting with Governor Yahaya Bello where the governor had expressed disappointment on the performance of Echocho and others from Kogi East in the just concluded governorship election in the state.
But the state police command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP William Aya disclosed on Wednesday that the Commissioner of Police, CP Bethrand C. Onuoha condemned the attack on the senator, stressing that no stone would be left unturned in their bid to prosecute the culprits.
“Consequent upon the attack on the Senator Representing Kogi East in the National Assembly yesterday (Tuesday) in Lokoja, Sen. Isah Jibrin Echocho, the Operatives of the Kogi State Police Command attached to Quick Response Unit promptly swung into action and apprehended six suspects in connection with the incident”, PPRO said.

Earlier, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Bello, Mohammed Onogwu, in a statement said “the governor received with rude shock the news of the harassment of some of the lawmakers on their way out of the government house and swiftly ordered the arrest of the culprits.”
