Maritime workers shelve plan to shut down port, terminals

The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), yesterday called off its plans to shut down the nation’s seaport after meeting with the management of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA).

The Managing Director of NPA, Mohammed Bello Koko, had on Monday brokered peace between the leadership of the union and marginal field operators of the oil and gas industry over non-compliance with Stevedoring regulations.

The executive members of the union at the weekend threatened to shut down oil and gas terminals as well as the seaport over the alleged refusal of multinational oil and gas companies to comply with the Stevedoring regulations.
