Gadam community empowers youth with vocational skills

Gadam Community Development Association (GACDA), Gombe State, says it has empowered hundreds of youths from Gadam town and environs with vocational skills, in order to make them self-reliant.

Chairman of GACDA, Alhaji Haruna Mahmuda disclosed this during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the association held at the Gadam Skills Acquisition Centre.

He said in the past one year, over 1,000 youths, including women were trained and empowered in various trades, which made them self-reliant and contributing to the Gadam economy.

Alhaji Mahmuda stated that the association secured the equipment and tools for the training worth N20 million from the Nigeria Building and Road Research Institute (NIBRRI).

He outlined some of the achievements of GACDA in the past one year, to include; provision of an ambulance to Gadam Primary Health Care Centre (PHCC), repair and replacement of broken pipes for the Gadam township water scheme and donation of 50KVA generator. 

Others are, installation of 21 units of computers and server at the skills acquisition centre, provision of solar powered street lights and donation of sewing machines for the first set of trainees of the tailoring skills.

According to him, the AGM was an avenue for members to discuss issues concerning growth and development of the Gadam community.

The chairman, therefore, called for the need for unity, sacrifice and commitment from the members to achieve the objectives of the association.

One of the speakers at the meeting, Hajiya Rabi Shuaibu Jimeta, pledged to provide full scholarships to two female students, in order to promote girl-child education in the community.
