The 16 members-elect of the Plateau State House of Assembly, have urged the speaker, Gabriel Dawang, to swear them into the house, having received their certificate of returns as ordered by the Court of Appeal.
The lawmakers-elect, through their counsel, Sunday Obende, said they wrote pursuant to Section 94 of the Nigerian Constitution as well as Order 3 Rule 3 of the Standing Order of the Plateau State House of Assembly, 2021.
The new members were issued with their certificate of return by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on December 24 after the election tribunal and Court of Appeal, sacked 16 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who subsequently elected the sole members of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), as new speaker.
The new speaker thereafter announced two months recess and vowed not to swear-in the incoming new members until January 23.
