Enema, representing Okura constituency, tendered his resignation letter on the floor of the House during the plenary, citing health challenges for his action.

The lawmaker, who has been battling with an undisclosed sickness since 2011, is travelling abroad for treatment.

Following his resignation, the Clerk of the House, Mr Chogudo Sule Ahmed, asked for nominations to fill the vacant position of deputy speaker, a process that ended in the emergence of Nwuchiola.

The new deputy speaker thanked Governor Yahaya Bello and the Speaker, Rt Hon. Aliyu Umar Yusuf, for creating the enabling environment that led to her emergence as the new deputy speaker of the house.
