The much-anticipated Kwara State Under 15 Governor’s Cup will commence on Wednesday (today) in Ilọrin, the state capital.
The Kwara State Football Association, event organisers, disclosed this yesterday.
The event was initially billed to start on Sunday before the latest development.
The event is a flagship soccer tournament involving all 16 local government areas participating in the age category.
According to Hon. Idris Abdullahi Musa, aka Thuraya, the state FA chairman, the shift was necessary to allow for better preparation.
“We intend it to be both glamorous and also developmental in the approach,” Thuraya said.
The competition this time would be fully sponsored by Sen Umar Sadiq representing Kwara North district at the national assembly.
By the new arrangement, screening would commence on Wednesday(today).
The tournament’s opening ceremony and first match will commence by 3 pm.
There will also be a trophy presentation, giving of jerseys to all participants and a match past by teams at the main bowl of the Kwara State Stadium.
Meanwhile, the technical crew of Kwara United Football Club led by Coach Kabir Sulaiman Dogo have been handed an ultimatum to win their next three matches or face sanctions.
The management said the move follows the dwindling fortunes of the club recently with the goalless draw with North Central rivals, Niger Tornadoes on Sunday.
