Rivers elders condemn attempt to impeach Fubara

Elders and leaders of Rivers state led by a former governor, Chief Rufus Ada-George, have said the attempt to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara was unacceptable.

The elders also condemned the recent defection of 27 lawmakers of the Rivers State House of Assembly from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

This was contained in a communique issued at the end of an emergency meeting of the Rivers elders and leaders on Sunday evening in Port Harcourt and made available to newsmen on Monday.

The elders expressed dismay that neither Fubara nor his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, responded to their letters to seek audience with them on the deteriorating political crisis in the state.

They describe the happenings in the state as embarrassing and dangerous.

Also, the forum urged President Bola Tinubu to consolidate on his earlier intervention, emphasising that the consequences of inaction may not only affect Rivers State, but the Niger Delta region and the nation.
