23 suspected cultists arrested in Edo

The Edo State Police Command have arrested 23 suspects allegedly involved in various cult related crimes in the state.

City and Crime gathered that 11 of the suspects were arrested at Uwelu quarters while 12 others were arrested at Siluko area of Benin City by the anti-cultism unit of the command.

The Edo State Commissioner of Police, Muhammed Dankwara, while parading the suspects said, the suspects were arrested following incessant cult clashes in Benin metropolis.

He said on December 8 and 10 due to incessant cult clashes, operatives of the command embarked on raid on criminal hideouts and black spots at Uwelu quarters Benin City and arrested 11 of the suspects.

“Also, on December 8, the police received intelligence that some boys suspected to be cults were sighted gathering in two brothels along Agaghase Street, off siluko road planning to carry out an attack on a rival cult group.

He said acting on the information, the police stormed the two brothels and arrested the suspects.

Dankawra said the suspect would be charged to court.

The police commissioner said the clamp down on cultism would continue in the state in order to have a peaceful yuletide.
