Taraba probes revenue collection by LG councils

Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has set up an 11-man committee to investigate revenue collection by the state’s local government councils.

The committee is chaired by the state’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Yakubu Maikasuwa (SAN).

The governor said the move was to improve the state’s internally generated revenue (IGR) to fund government programmes contained in the 2024 budget.

The panel is mandated to probe the amount the local government councils collected and how the fund was spent.

The committee is also mandated by the governor to find out the local councils that outsourced revenue collection to individuals or organisations.

In the case of outsourcing, the panel would investigate whether such was done according to extant laws and recommend appropriate sanctions against erring councils.

The committee is to submit its findings and recommendations to Governor Agbu Kefas within the next 14 days.
