The Chief Superintendent of Police, Kaduna State Police Command, Victoria Obeke has expressed concern over the unreported cases of Gender Based Voice (GBV) cases saying 95 per cent of the cases are unreported.
Speaking at the launch of the Zonal Research Report on ‘Closing Civic Space: The Experience of Women Led-Civil Society Organisations in NorthWest, Nigeria’ in Kaduna, she said most of the survivors at the point of abuse do not know what they are going through because they are not in the right frame of mind.
According to her, “95 per cent of GBV cases are unreported and most of the survivors do not know what they are going through. So it is the responsibility of the parents or guardians to ensure that the victim of GBV gets justice.
She urged the participants not to relent in their efforts and to continue to create awareness of GBV.

The Project Coordinator and Executive Director, of Gender Awareness Trust (GAT), Dr. Lydia Umar said the research was informed by the discovery that there was a lot of suspicion about CSOs in that part of the country.
She said, “We just woke up one day and the governor of Zamfara state said all the Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) should leave the state followed by the fact that the state assembly wanted to pass a law regulating and controlling the CSOs.”
She urged the government to give NGOs and CSOs to contribute their quota to the development of the country and the upliftment of humanity.
Sharing their experiences, representatives from Kaduna, Zamfara, Birnin Kebbi and Jigawa identified lack of funding, lack of full implementation and awareness of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law and lack of Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) registration as major constraints hindering their progress.
