10 killed in Lagos-Ibadan expressway crash

Ten persons on Tuesday morning died in an accident along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Our correspondent gathered that the crash occurred at about 5am at the Kara turning, Ogun State, towards interchange on the highway.

The crash involved Iveco truck marked KRA 80 XA and a Hiace bus with registration number FKY 898 YF.

The Spokesman of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Florence Okpe, confirmed the incident to newsmen in Abeokuta.

According to her, 18 men were involved in the accident, out of which seven persons sustained injuries, 10 died while one was unhurt.

Okpe attributed the accident to speeding on the part of the bus driver, leading to loss of control of the wheels.

“The bus rammed into the truck that was about negotiating the turning,” she said.

Okpe said that the injured victims were taken to Famobis Hospital, Mowe, for medical attention while the deceased were deposited at Idera Morgue, Sagamu.

She quoted the Sector Commander, Anthony Uga, to have described the accident as avoidable if necessary cautionary measures were adhered to.
