Kwara: Court dissolves marriage over lack of care

An area court sitting in Centre-Igboro, Ilorin, Kwara State, has dissolved the marriage between one AbdulGaniyu Yahya and his wife, Hafsah, over the husband not providing the needs of the family.

The union, which produced four children, was terminated after the two parties failed to settle out of court.

The petitioner, Aisha, had told the court that the respondent, “Despite pleas by this court, the respondent has refused to change. He does not provide anything for the home.”

The Judge, Hammad Ajumobi, pronounced the marriage dissolved and ordered the woman to observe the three-month Islamic “iddah” before she could marry again to ensure she was not carrying a pregnancy for the respondent.

The court granted the petitioner custody of the four children and ordered Abdulganiyu to be responsible for their school fees, upkeep and feeding.
