The Nigeria Export Promotion Council (NEPC) has said Nigeria currently has 4,000 enterprises led by women, which export different goods and services to many parts of the world under the SheTrades initiative.
The executive director/chief executive officer of the NEPC, Nonye Ayeni, stated this over the weekend in Abuja at the Export readiness workshop, with the theme: Positioning Women-Led Businesses for AfCFTA Success,” organised by the council, in collaboration with the International Trade Centre (ITC), under the framework of the SheTrades Commonwealth project.
According to her, SheTrades is an initiative that was launched by the International Trade Centre (ITC) in 2015 to remove barriers to women’s participation in trade by working with governments and private sector organisations to build the business capacities of women and create a fairer, more sustainable global eco-system.
She said, “Nigeria currently has over 4,000 women-led businesses currently connected to this initiative and they have participated in webinars, market access programmes and in-person training programmes designed to meet specific sectoral needs.”
