CSO warns against unconfirmed allegations on DSS boss

A Civil Society Organisation, Competent Governance for Accountability and Civic Trust (CGACT), has described the publication against the DG DSS, Yusuf Bichi, as a figment of the author’s imagination.

The CSO said the recent online lashing of Bichi was a misinterpretation of intent.

“Piling up allegations based on hearsay is tantamount to assassination of character.

“Accusation of financial misconduct, posting based on nepotism, appointment and promotion of agents based on the DG’s discretion and lobbying to remain the DG of agency ought to be proven with proof in the court of law. These are weighty accusations that need concrete proof.”

In the statement by the National Coordinator of CGACT, Omoba Michael and the Executive Director of Programs, Comr. Godwin Oghenero Erheriene, the CSO said Bichi had served the country diligently, helping to push insurgence out of Abuja before this administration.

“His contributions to the continuity of democracy are a reflection of competence, allegiance and service to his nation,” the CSO said, adding that Bichi’s antecedence was his ticket to continuity.

“It will be of interest to Nigerians to know that the DSS is saddled with the responsibilities of collating intelligence gear towards national security. The agency is the frontline amongst other agencies in intelligence gathering. And that is its primary objective.

“The monies set aside for the acquisition of intelligence is oftentimes misconstrued by even staff of the agency talk more of an outsider.”

While noting that there were consequences for peddling unfounded information, CGACT said such acts could have psychological effects on the morale of the staff, masses and the image of this administration.
