Jigawa SUBEB chair escapes attack by teachers

The Chairman of the Jigawa State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Prof Haruna Musa, on Saturday, escaped being attacked by teachers of the programme popularly known as J-Teach at the Federal University Dutse (FUD), venue of an aptitude test for recruitment of 3,000 teachers.

The teachers who gathered in their numbers at the venue, lamented that the SUBEB chairman was trying to replace them after their years of toiling and just being an inch to clinching permanent and pensionable appointment from the state government.

They accused the SUBEB chairman of attempting to replace their appointment with candidates from politicians and privileged individuals.

The teachers also blocked the entrance of the Government House, preventing Governor Umar Namadi from attending the national conference on Zakat and Waq’fiq at the Manpower Development Institute a few metres from the Government House.

Speaking during the protest, the Secretary of the J-Teach Association, Comrade Abbas Muazu Aujara, explained that the teachers were recruited under the J-Teach programme initiated by former Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar two years ago.

He explained that they had undergone various screenings, examinations and interviews and finally, 3,000 out of over 5,000 of them were recruited on stipends and were posted to primary and junior secondary schools in the state.
