The Chairman of Toto LGA of Nasarawa State, Alhaji Abdullahi Aliyu Tashas, has ordered security agents to clamp down on charcoal producers in the LGA.
Tashas handed down the order at the weekend while inaugurating a task force to tackle deforestation.
He said the ban on the production of charcoal was in the bid to stem the tide of deforestation, as well as save economic trees from extinction in the area.
He noted that the indiscriminate felling of trees had continued to affect the ecosystem, adding that the ban would help to checkmate bandits.
