The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) said there are plans to amend the law guiding private guard firms.
NSCDC Commandant General, Ahmed Audu, disclosed this yesterday during the 16th annual security conference organised by the Nigerian Institute for Industrial Security held in Lagos.
The Private Guard Companies Act was enacted in 1986.
The commandant said the proposed amendment was to enhance the performance of private security firms amid the rising insecurity in the country.
He said, “We have also seen that the Private Guard Companies Act that brought about private security is obsolete and the global best practice now is to introduce technology into security.
“There are plans by the government to re-enact the Private Guard Companies Act to give them better performance.”
The president, the Nigerian Institute for Industrial Security, Alhaji Isa Ozi Salami, urged the federal government to deploy technology in the country’s security framework.
