The European Union and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) will spend $60 million in various women and child intervention programs in Bauchi, Adamawa and Kebbi states.
The Head of Communication and Development for the implementation of the project in the state, Alhaji Muhammad Inuwa Bello, disclosed this during a courtesy visit on the Bauchi State Executive Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Bauchi, saying the project was aimed at strengthening primary healthcare and community resilience for improved maternal, newborn, child health and nutrition in the three northern states where he said 2.7 million under-5 children and 850,000 women would be direct beneficiaries.
He said the project’s goal was to significantly reduce maternal and child mortality towards the achievement of SDG number 3.
Responding, the state chairman of the NUJ, Comrade Ibrahim Malam Goje, pledged the support of the NUJ for the success of the project.
