Rivers record 3000 sexual violence cases in 4 years

 

The Coordinator of Rivers State Response Team on Violence Against Women and Children, Tombari Dumka-Kote, has said that his organisation since 2019 handled over 3000 cases of sexual and gender-based violence in the state.

Dumka-kote told our reporter on the sideline of a high-level stakeholder dialogue for the review of sexual and gender-based violence implementation mechanisms in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

He said his organisation in 2023 alone handled about 183 cases of sexual violence and sought the expeditious handling of sexual and gender-based violence cases within three months and called for the establishment of special courts.

He said, “So far, our team has handled 3000 cases of sexual and gender-based violence between 2019 and till date. This year alone, we have recorded, so far, 183 cases of sexual and gender-based violence.”
