DBN hosts annual lecture to lift MSMEs

As part of measures to address the plights of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Nigeria, the Development Bank of Nigeria PLC (DBN) is to hold its 4th annual lecture series today in Abuja.

DBN is a wholesale financial institution set up by the Federal Government of Nigeria in collaboration with global developmental partners to address the major financing challenges facing MSMEs in Nigeria.

DBN’s objective is to alleviate financing constraints faced by MSMEs through the provision of financing and partial credit guarantees to eligible financial intermediaries on a market-conforming and fully financially sustainable basis.

The annual lecture holding today, according to the Managing Director/CEO, Mr. Tony Okpanachi, would discuss the theme of “A digital Nigeria – Leveraging Technology to improve ease of doing business for MSMEs.”

The theme, he stated, was informed by the technology innovation, which is “Occurring exponentially and businesses are increasingly recognising and leveraging technology for growth.”

The MD observed that the Nigerian ICT sector contributed 15% to the nation’s GDP in 2020 and grew by 6.47% in Q1 2021, making it the fastest-growing sector in the economy, hence the focus on technology.
