Kebbi: 2 killed, 8 injured in herders/farmers’ clash

Two people have been killed and eight others injured in a clash between farmers and herders in Suru LGA of Kebbi State.

The Chairman of Suru LGA, Mohammed Lawal, who disclosed this yesterday while briefing Governor Nasiru Idris, explained that the crisis started on Saturday morning when some farmers went to their farms and met herders and their cattle on the farms.

He said, “The farmers enquired from the herders whether they were the ones destroying their crops and this led to a clash between them. People were killed, property and houses were destroyed.”

He said the affected villages were Kankure, Tunga Rimi, Tunga Mai Rakumi, Runhewan Dulmeru, Sabuwan Kendawa and Limarein.

The governor’s spokesman, Ahmed Idris, in a statement, said his principal had directed the Chairman of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Bello Rilisco, to identify the victims and support them with the necessary food items and other relief materials.

He said, “Governor Nasiru has waded into the farmers and herders clash in Suru and Koko Besse areas of the state to restore lasting peace in the affected communities.

“He also donated N13m to families of the deceased and those that sustained injuries in the clash.”
