Tinubu’s intervention in Akeredolu, deputy’s feud a window dressing – PDP

The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State has described the intervention of President Bola Tinubu in the political crisis between Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, as a mere window dressing, as it is far from been over.

This is coming barely 24 hours after President Tinubu intervened in the feud between Akeredolu and Aiyedatiwa and other political actors in the state at the presidential villa.

Daily Trust had reported that Tinubu, who was concerned about the logjam in the state following the continued absence of Governor Akeredolu, called for a truce between members of the state’s cabinet.

But the PDP, in a statement issued on Sunday, said despite Tinubu’s intervention in resolving the political feud between the governor and his deputy, it was far from being over and while it could be termed an internal party affair, the impact it was having on governance in the state, especially with taxpayers’ money being deployed on the fruitless trips to Abuja, made it imperative for the party to speak out.

In the statement signed by its spokesman, Kennedy Peretei, and issued to journalists in Akure, the PDP said “Let us pray that the presidential intervention will not go the way of the Bello Masari Reconciliation Committee set up by APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje. After several trips to Abuja at taxpayers’ expense, both parties returned to court despite promises to withdraw all cases.

“From what we have read about the outcome, Tinubu’s intervention is a mere window dressing. Out of respect for his office, the impeachment of the deputy governor will no longer see daylight, but as long as Akeredolu remains in hiding, it is not yet Uhuru, the cat and mouse race will still continue. The siege is not yet over.”
