Lobi Stars edge 3SC 2-1 to reclaim top spot

Lobi Stars Sunday stormed back to the top of the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, after they recorded a hard fought 2-1 win over 3SC  in the Week 10 match played at the Lafia Stadium.

The ‘Pride of Benue’ had momentarily surrendered their leadership of the table to Doma United after suffering a slim 0-1 loss at Enyimba FC in week 9.

However, it was a good day in the office for the Coach Eugene Agagbe tutored boys as they left it late to claim the maximum points against 3SC.

Waheed Adebayo put the hosts in front as early as the 2nd minute but Gideon Monday drew the visitors level in the 49th minute.

Although 3SC appeared to be running away with a crucial away point, they had a penalty awarded against them for alleged ball handling.

Former Nigerian international, Kalu Orji whose cross resulted in the penalty kick stepped forward to hand Lobi Stars the maximum points from the spot in the 84th minute.

At the Sani Abacha Stadium, Pillars’ search for a fifth win of the season proved abortive as they were forced to a barren draw by impressive Bendel Insurance.

However, Niger Tornadoes managed to pick the third victory of the season as they laboured to a 1-0 win over Akwa United at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium Kaduna.

After a barren first half, Bashir Umar, struck in the 65th minute to give the ‘Ikon Allah’ boys the much needed victory.

Moses Onome Omaduemuke was the hero in the Southwest derby between Sunshine Stars and newcomers Sporting FC as his lone strike in the 25th minute handed the ‘Akure gunners’ the maximum points.

In Ilorin, Alao Mohammed scored a brace in the 37th and 85th minute as Kwara United downed Gombe United 2-0 just as Katsina United fought back to draw 1-1 with Bayelsa United at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium.

Bello Lukman scored the equaliser in the 61st minute to save the ‘Chanji boys’ from their first home defeat of the season.

Meanwhile, Abia Warriors piped Enugu Rangers 1-0 in the ‘oriental derby’ played in Umauhia.

The week 10 matches concluded yesterday produced five victories for home teams, two draws and 10 goals in seven matches.
