Speakers have advocated youth mentorship as an important tool for national development.
The call was made yesterday at the launch of the book: “50 Years in God’s Service” to mark the 50 years dedicated to the work of God by Bishop Daniel Ikechukwu Egboka, a pioneer member minister of the Pentecostal Church of Nigeria.
Speaking during the ceremony, a former Chairman of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), Abuja Chapter, Patrick Tagbo Oguejiofor said the priest demonstrated through years of his service to God that mentoring men and women helped them live exemplary lives.
He regretted the decline of Christian mentors in Nigeria today leading to social vices such as ritual killings, materialism and prosperity gospels, which he said “have all tainted the body of Christ and turned it into a nightmarish den of false prophets.”
“However, Reverend Egboka had stood his ground in the midst of these confusions and crisis that has trailed the Christendom. The reason for this is that he was called by God,” he said.
In his remarks, the chairman of the occasion, Nwoke Linus recalled how the teachings of Bishop Egboka in the 1980s helped him find his path in life and made him believe he was somebody.
